Sabzevar or Sabzewar carpets
History of Sabzevar carpets
The Persian Province Khorasan is the biggest in Persian. It stretches across the north-east of the country. Many beautiful carpets come from this region of Persia. The capital is Mashad, where most of these rugs are sold daily. Other centers of carpet production in this region are cashmar (Turshis), Mood, Sabzevar, Ghain and Birjand, most of them near Mashad. Many Baloch carpets are also made in this province by Baloch nomads tied, who live in the southernmost regions.
In 1722 Persia was invaded by the Afghans. This event left the country in a state of political confusion and the carpet industry in a state of devastation for many years, particularly in established regions such as Mashhad.
Despite the massive invasion, Khorasan and many other regions managed to recover and the carpet industry revived, while the Iranian royal courts did everything in their power to bring this fine art back to the country. Persian kings such as Shah Abass often confiscated and destroyed carpets of inferior quality and using inferior dyeing techniques to ensure that the integrity of this ancient Persian art was not lost.
The large Persian province of Khorasan produces many different types of handmade carpets, ranging from medium to fine.
However, all are very robust and indestructible. Carpets woven in cities such as Kashmar, Mashad, Mood, Sabzevar and Birjand are generally of better quality than those woven by nomads in the region. Although the nomads originally woven these rugs for their own use, the cities have adopted this talent and perfected it into an art form.
Characteristics of Sabzevar carpets
material and knotting
Almost all of these carpets consist of a wool pile and a basic weave (warp and weft) of cotton. On extremely rare occasions, these rugs may contain silk as part of the pile, the backing, or the entire rug. However, this is very unlikely unless the pieces are significantly older than a few centuries. Wool, on the other hand, is very shiny and soft and is used exclusively by the Khorasan people. This fine wool combined with beautiful patterns and fine craftsmanship result in these exquisite rugs.
Colors
Almost every color can appear in the different carpets of this type.
The design and the patterns
These carpets do not have the traditional pattern of a sabzevar. Rather, they adopt the patterns of other cities in Persia. This teppich is perfect for adding a touch of class to a room where elegance is important.
