Description
fine cashmere silk
Material and workmanship
Pile: 100% silk. Warp: 100% silk. The silk used for the pile is a fine, supple yarn and is used exclusively for high-quality carpets. The silk warp serves as the base fabric; the use of silk in the warp allows for tighter and finer weaves than with wool. Hand-knotted construction: The carpet was knotted by hand. Hand-knotting requires skilled craftsmanship and patience; the manual knotting process enhances pattern precision and the softness of the pile.
origin and tradition
Provenance: Kashmir silk. Origin: India. The province of Kashmir is traditionally known for its wool and silk carpets. In India, carpet weaving in its present form dates back to the Mughal Empire in the 16th century; at that time, weaving workshops were established based on Persian models. This historical connection explains the continuing influence of Persian pattern traditions in Indian weaving workshops and the ongoing interplay between traditional and contemporary designs.
design and pattern
The pattern design is based on traditional Persian motifs. Persian patterns are rendered in harmonious pastel colors. The combination of fine silk warp and silk pile allows for a sharper rendering of delicate ornaments and a clear depiction of fine lines within the pattern. Indian production facilities adopt historical Persian influences, but also incorporate them into new compositions; the Persian influence remains recognizable in the designs to this day.
Features
Article No.: 1010397. Both the pile and warp are made of 100% silk; the carpet is hand-knotted. The use of silk in the warp allows for knot counts of 600.000 knots per square meter and more. Knot density: (approx. 1000000 knots/m²). The combination of silk pile and silk warp, along with the hand-knotted construction, defines the carpet's technical properties and enables the fine execution of Persian ornamentation.
